Restore Clarity and Thermal Performance

"Foggy" windows are the most common sign of window failure in Toronto. It starts as a bit of moisture in the corner of the glass that comes and goes with the sun. Eventually, it becomes a permanent, white-grey haze that ruins your view. This isn't just cosmetic; it means the insulating gas (Argon) has escaped and been replaced by moist air. Installix specializes in failed seal repair by replacing the compromised Insulated Glass Unit (IGU) while keeping your existing frames intact.

Why Windows Fog Up

Solar Pumping

Windows expand in the day's heat and contract in the night's cold. Over thousands of cycles, this "pumping" action stresses the perimeter seal of the glass unit. Eventually, a microscopic breach forms.

Desiccant Saturation

Inside the spacer bar between your panes, there are tiny beads called desiccant designed to absorb moisture. Once the seal breaches, the desiccant absorbs humidity from the outside air until it is 100% saturated. After that, moisture condenses on the glass inside the unit.

Myth Buster

You cannot "clean" the fog from the inside. Drilling holes to vent the moisture (defogging) is a temporary cosmetic fix that destroys the R-value of the window. Replacement of the unit is the only permanent solution.

The Solution: Thermal Unit Replacement

We remove the foggy IGU and install a brand new, factory-sealed unit. This restores 100% of the R-value and gives you a brand new 10-year warranty against future fogging.

Why Choose Installix?

  • No Mess: Unlike full window replacement, we don't touch your trim, blinds, or drywall.
  • Upgrade Options: While replacing the glass, you can upgrade to Low-E coating or remove/add internal grids.
  • Speed: Installation typically takes less than an hour per window.

Technical Specifications

Component Standard

Our Process: Diagnostics to Clarity

Step 1: Evaluation

We identify the type of window (vinyl, wood, aluminum) and the glazing method to ensure the glass can be replaced safely.

Step 2: Measurement

We measure glass thickness and overall unit depth to the millimeter. An ill-fitting unit will fail prematurely.

Step 3: Swap

We de-glaze the sash, clean the frame, install the new unit, and apply fresh glazing tape/silicone.

Pricing Factors

  • Size: Pricing is largely based on square footage.
  • Shape: Arched or shaped units cost more to manufacture.
  • Quantity: We offer volume discounts if you are replacing 3+ units at once.

Our Service Promise

10-Year Warranty on the new seal. If it fogs, we replace it.

Common Questions about Foggy / Failed Seal Repair

Not necessarily. Seals have a lifespan (typically 15-20 years). Solar pumping (expansion/contraction) eventually wears out the seal material.
We do not recommend 'defogging' (drilling holes). It compromises the structural integrity and insulation value (R-value). Replacing the unit is the only permanent fix.
