Left or Right?
Door Handing Visualizer
Stop guessing. Stand on the outside (keyed side) of your door and answer two simple questions to get the specific industry code for your door.
1Where are the hinges?
Why Door Handing Matters
Ordering a door with the wrong handing is one of the most common and costly mistakes in renovations. Whether you are replacing a front entry door or installing a new patio door, the "handing" determines which side the hinges are on and which way the door swings.
The Golden Rule
ALWAYS determine handing from the exterior (outside) of the house or room. For interior doors, stand on the side where you would use a key (or the "public" side).
Visual Guide to Codes

- RH (Right Hand): Hinges on Right, Pushes In.
- LHR (Left Hand Reverse): Hinges on Left, Pulls Out.
- RHR (Right Hand Reverse): Hinges on Right, Pulls Out.
