Glass Railings in Toronto and GTA
Unobstructed Views, Uncompromised Safety
Why spend money on a deck or balcony with a great view, only to block it with wood spindles or aluminum bars? Glass Railings provide the essential safety barrier required by code while vanishing from sight, connecting you seamlessly with the outdoors. Installix supplies and installs premium glass railing systems for porches, decks, and balconies in the GTA. We use heavy tempered glass and marine-grade hardware to ensure your railing withstands Toronto winters and meets strict Ontario Building Code load requirements.
System Styles
Post & Clamp
Stainless steel or black aluminum posts with glass clamps. This is a cost-effective, durable system that allows for airflow between panels.
Base Shoe (Frameless)
The glass emerges directly from a heavy aluminum channel buried in or mounted on the floor. This offers the ultimate "infinity" view with no vertical posts.
Spigot (Mini-Post)
Glass panels are held by small stainless steel clamps bolted to the floor. A popular, modern look for pool enclosures and low decks.
The Solution: Engineered Safety
Glass railings must withstand significant force (human impact, wind load). We do not use thin glass. We use 10mm or 12mm Tempered Safety Glass (or Laminated where required for guards over 10m high).
Why Choose Installix?
- Code Compliance: We ensure railing height (36" or 42") and glass strength meet local building codes.
- Hardware Quality: We use 2205 Duplex Stainless Steel hardware which offers far superior corrosion resistance than standard 304 stainless, essential for salty Toronto winters.
- Custom Layout: We CAD design the layout to ensure symmetrical glass panels and perfect corner fits.
Technical Specifications
| Feature | Spec |
|---|---|
| Glass | 10mm or 12mm Clear Tempered. (Laminated for high fall risks). |
| Height | 36" (Private residential low decks) or 42" (Guards/Commercial). |
| Top Rail | A continuous metal cap rail is required by code on most frameless systems to bridge panels in case of breakage. |
Our Process: Anchored for Life
Step 1: Structural Check
We inspect the deck blocking. The railing is only as strong as what it bolts into. We may require blocking be added before install.
Step 2: Post/Shoe Install
We mount the hardware, ensuring perfect level and plumb alignment.
Step 3: Glass Setting
We slide the heavy glass panels into place, tighten compression gaskets, and install the top cap rail.
Pricing Factors
- Linear Footage: Pricing is per linear foot.
- System: Base shoe systems (frameless) are significantly more expensive than post systems due to the heavy aluminum channel and thicker glass required.
- Corners/Stairs: Stair railings require custom-shaped parallelogram glass, increasing fabrication cost.
