Insulated Glass Units (IGUs): The Heart of Your Window

The Insulated Glass Unit (IGU) is the "engine" of your window. It consists of two or three panes of glass separated by a spacer and sealed to create an airtight, moisture-free space. Anatomy of a Unit

Glass

Typically 3mm to 6mm thick. Can be clear, tinted, or Low-E.

Spacer

The structural rim that holds the glass apart. Contains desiccant beads that absorb moisture.

The Sealant

A dual-seal system. Primary seal (Polyisobutylene) keeps gas in. Secondary seal (Structural silicone/Polysulfide) holds the unit together.
